“Self-reflection portrait”

“Ich vermisse” is “I miss you” in German.

During my daily walk with my 10-month-old daughter, lost in my own feelings and thoughts,

I miss my home, Cairo, my friends, my family, the warm weather and my pre-pregnancy body.

The anxiety of not knowing the future, but of knowing the present; of being unable to communicate in my new home…

having a foreign tongue and not mastering the local one; and keeping the social distancing.

I embodied my inner reflection into the autumn leaf.

I have to accept the new reality.

“I miss…”
